1. Introduction
Welcome to The Horologist’s Studio. We specialise in the restoration, servicing, and conservation of vintage mechanical clocks, including grandfather, mantel, wall, and anniversary clocks.
By engaging our services or using this website, you agree to the following terms and conditions. These terms are designed to ensure clarity, professionalism, and mutual respect in all interactions.
2. Services Provided
The Horologist’s Studio provides the following services:
- Mechanical movement restoration and overhaul
- Cleaning, oiling, and adjustment
- Case and dial conservation
- House calls and clock setup
- Legacy Edition restorations and documentation
All restoration and servicing work is carried out using traditional horological techniques, in line with our philosophy of conservative, authenticity-focused restoration.
3. Assessments & Estimates
Initial inspections and consultations are offered free of charge unless otherwise stated.
All estimates are based on an initial assessment and may be revised once the movement has been fully disassembled and examined.
No work will commence without written or verbal approval of the final quotation from the client.
4. Payment Terms
- A deposit (typically 50%) may be required before work begins to secure your restoration slot and cover material costs.
- The balance is payable upon completion, prior to collection or delivery.
- Payment methods accepted: EFT / bank transfer (details provided on invoice).
- Clocks will not be released until full payment has been received.
5. Turnaround Times
Each restoration is performed individually and may vary in duration depending on complexity, condition, and availability of replacement parts.
Estimated completion times are provided in good faith but are not guaranteed.
Clients will be notified of any significant delays.
6. Handling, Risk & Liability
Utmost care and respect are taken with all timepieces entrusted to The Horologist’s Studio.
However:
- Vintage and antique clocks are accepted at the owner’s risk.
- Pre-existing damage, age-related wear, or hidden mechanical issues may not be visible prior to disassembly.
- While every precaution is taken, The Horologist’s Studio cannot be held responsible for loss or damage arising from inherent mechanical fragility, transport, or external environmental factors.
All clocks are stored and handled securely during their time in the studio.
7. Warranty & Performance
All restoration and overhaul work includes a 12-month warranty on workmanship.
This warranty covers:
- Restoration or repair defects arising from our work.
It does not cover:
- Damage caused by transport, movement, mishandling, or environmental conditions (e.g., humidity, temperature fluctuations).
- Clocks that have been adjusted, tampered with, or serviced by third parties after completion.
Mechanical clocks are subject to natural variation in performance; minor gain or loss over time is considered normal.
8. Legacy Edition & Documentation
Legacy Edition restorations may include custom presentation materials such as booklets, photography, or optional video documentation.
Ownership of the clock and associated documentation remains with the client, but The Horologist’s Studio retains the right to use photographs or video clips for portfolio and marketing purposes unless the client requests otherwise in writing.
9. Privacy & Data Protection
We respect your privacy.
Personal information such as name, contact details, and clock information is collected solely for service and communication purposes.
We do not share or sell personal data to third parties.
